About Ultimate Places

What’s this blog about? Well that is a work in progress. What it is starting off as, is a catalog of all the cool places I have been or would like to go to before sailing off into the sunset…so to speak. But in the end, I’m hoping it turns into a resource for others to use, rather than just a personal journal of places I find interesting.

So this blog is really a journey to find the world’s ultimate places, places we’d rather be then stuck behind a desk at the office. In my definition (if I can even capture it), the ultimate places have something intrinsic about them that sets them apart from the ordinary, whether it be their natural beauty, historic significance, etc. They must also be places that thousands of people would automatically gravitate toward if given the opportunity. I also think they must be places the average person can get to, with the appropriate amount of effort, whether that be physical effort or monetary effort (like raising cash to get there). Any place that has been unreasonably restricted because of private property rights doesn’t qualify in my book, no matter how great it might be.

So what makes me an expert in picking what are and are not the ultimate places in the world? Well nothing really, as I think the places I intend to profile here really pick themselves. Does it take much convincing that the Grand Canyon deserves a spot on the list? I hope not, because unless you’re dead, or grew up along its edge, I can’t imagine someone finding the Grand Canyon “ordinary”. So even though I haven’t and probably will never have the time to visit all of the places I plan to profile, hopefully you will ultimately agree that they are among the best places on Earth. And more importantly, if this site helps you discover a cool place you never knew existed, than I’ve fulfilled my ultimate goal in developing this site.
